Long Lost Blog

Ok, so, I seriously had good intensions when I started this blog.  Within a few days of my last blog post I discovered that I am pregnant.  Yes, I know that was like a million years ago, but I was immediately sick and continued to be sick until my 17th week of pregnancy.  Terrible, I tell you.

I am now 28 weeks pregnant and busy getting prepared for our new baby girl, her name is Ella Grace.

The bad news is that I don't expect to have much time for crafts and will likely close this blog.

In the mean time I would love some advice from anyone out there on what life will be like with a 2 year old and a newborn.  I am suddenly overwhelmed at the thought of how everything will work out: breastfeeding a newborn, putting baby back to sleep, and taking care of a toddler (and everything else) all at the same time.  Maybe its just pregnancy hormones :)  but, change can be a little scary.

I'd love any advice, support, ideas, etc.  And, I'm getting ready to stock my freezer with food in preparation for those weeks of craziness, if you have any tried and true yummy freezer recipes please send them my way.

Copycat Pillowcase Dress from Fabric - First Attempt

I have seen some super cute pillowcase dresses out there.  My 16-month old daughter is running around like crazy these days, and since we live in hot, humid Florida,  I decided it was time to attempt a pillowcase dress.

I did not have a spare pillowcase and didn’t see the point of purchasing one considering I have a bit of extra fabric.

I searched the Internet and found this tutorial on using fabric instead of a pillowcase (isn’t that a sweet blog!).  I must note that I did not follow the tutorial exactly, I sort of winged it after reading it through.  If you have a pillowcase you'd like to use you won't have any trouble finding a tutorial, there are a ton online.

Here’s my Copycat Pillowcase Dress (some adjustments still needed)

Since my daughter does not stand still for long I had a hard time measuring how big to make the dress, so I ended up just making it a little big.  Once she grows into it I will need to trim and adjust the ribbons.  I might actually need to sew them so that she can't untie them...  we'll see :)

I think I might need to make her a matching purse to go along with her dress, what do you think?

If you have a little girl or know of one, a pillowcase dress is super-simple must. I’d love to know if you try it!

Copycat Rag Quilt - First Attempt

I really love the look of the rag quilts that are selling these days. They look so soft and cuddly. But they can be expensive, sometimes selling for over $100. I just figured there must be something really difficult about making them that I am unaware of, considering that I have never made a quilt.

Then I found this tutorial, and this one.... and decided I must give it a try!

Here’s my first Copycat Rag Quilt

What I learned:
  • It was not difficult at all, as long as you know the basics of how to sew
  • If you use batting make sure to sew/quilt it down
  • Don’t use Terry cloth, as cute as it may look
Seriously, you must try this!  I'd love to know if you do and I'll let you know when I attempt my Second Copycat Rag Quilt.
